Welcome to GrowHydroponicly!
My name’s Rhadeik, but you can call me Rhady. I’m a Jamaican-born, Texas-based Army veteran, now growing greens from my apartment in San Antonio. I used to be a healthcare specialist and combat medic, but these days, you’ll usually find me tinkering with nutrient mixes, rigging up grow lights, and getting way too excited about root systems.
This blog is my personal journey into the world of hydroponics — a way to reconnect with the peace I used to feel as a kid in Jamaica, growing plants and living close to the earth.
It all started in early 2025, when a snowstorm rolled into Texas. I had a tiny hydroponic kit my girlfriend gifted me sitting unused on the counter. I figured, why not? I loaded it up with leftover seeds from the year before and just like that — I was hooked.
What This Blog Is About
GrowHydroponicly is my digital greenhouse — a place where I document my wins, mistakes, discoveries, and plant obsessions in real time.
I’m not here to sell you anything. I’m here to grow stuff, share what I learn, and hopefully connect with other curious growers — with hat being said… you can find all the products I use here (these are all on amazon)
Right now, I’ve got everything from tomatoes and cucumbers to bok choy and chocolate scotch bonnets growing under Barrina grow lights in my living room. I’m experimenting with the Kratky method using whatever containers I can get my hands on — water bottles, 5-gallon jugs, cranberry juice bottles — anything that holds water is fair game.
Why I’m Doing This
This journey is more than just growing food indoors. For me, it’s about creating something I can nurture — something that brings me peace in a world that doesn’t always make sense.
Even though I’ve studied agriculture and managed farms before, hydroponics is a new frontier. Every setup is an experiment. Every plant is a teacher. I love comparing hydro setups to traditional soil growing, troubleshooting deficiencies, and seeing how far I can push the limits of what’s possible in a tiny apartment.
Eventually, I want to grow most (if not all) of the produce I normally buy at the store. I also want to explore propagation, cross-breeding, growing root vegetables indoors, and maybe even a few fruiting plants.
Let’s Grow Together
This blog will be a running log of my process — complete with updates, photos, videos, and probably a few rants about things like pH swings or water bottle failures. I’m also started a YouTube channel – Rhady From GrowHydroponicly to give a more visual look at everything happening behind the scenes.
If you’ve got tips, advice, questions, or just want to say hey, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’ve already met a few like-minded folks here in San Antonio, and it’s been awesome learning together. Hopefully, this space grows into a little community where we can swap ideas, troubleshoot problems, and geek out over leafy greens.
Thanks for being here. Let’s get growing.
